Dance

At Peacock’s Performing Arts Center we offer dance instruction in a wide variety of genres. Our goal is provide quality instruction in a positive and encouraging environment. Students will follow a structured sequence of training stages intended to increase student’s technical skills, stamina and discipline in accordance with their age and physical development. We emphasize correct placement in order to prevent injury.  Our focus is to prepare our students for their future in dance or otherwise.

Mini Movers

Our mini movers class is sure to be a great time! This class is designed for 2 year olds who love to move. During class students will be introduced to locomotive movement and music. The goal is to inspire creativity while teaching students how to interact in a classroom environment.

Twinkle Tots

This class focuses on basic ballet technique, creative movement, musicality and motor skills. This class is designed to introduce our youngest performers to every aspect of the performing arts! It is perfect for children already singing and dancing all over the house as well as those that feel shy to get up in front of people. Broadway Babies

This class focuses on basic ballet technique, creative movement, musicality and motor skills. This class is designed to introduce our youngest performers to every aspect of the performing arts! It is perfect for children already singing and dancing all over the house as well as those that feel shy to get up in front of people. This is a wonderful class to instill confidence, self-esteem and good listening skills!

Broadway Babies – Age 4 (Pre-K)

KinderCombo (Ballet & Tap)

This class will consist of 30 minutes of ballet and 30 minutes of tap. This class is designed to build on ballet skills and terminology learned in previous classes while also introducing tap concepts and skills. Students will also explore movement, musicality, and rhythm. By teaching students these two foundational styles of dance students will have the building blocks they need to excel as they advance in their dance education. This class also utilizes time to allow students to move creatively and use their imagination to motivate their movement. This is essential to their exploration of dance and development of understanding how their body moves. We know these students will love this class created specifically for their needs as a 5-year-old. This is the perfect class to begin learning the very important techniques of ballet and tap. This class promotes good listening skills, discipline skills, and self-esteem in an enriching environment!

KinderCombo – Age 5 (Kindergarten)

KinderCombo (Ballet & Jazz)

This class will consist of 30 minutes of ballet and 30 minutes of jazz. This class is designed to build on ballet skills and terminology learned in previous classes while also introducing jazz concepts and skills. This is the perfect class to learn the very important techniques of ballet and jazz. Students will come to develop dance technique and vocabulary along with flexibility, coordination and confidence. This class promotes good listening skills, discipline skills, and self-esteem in an enriching environment!

KinderCombo – Age 5 (Kindergarten)

Primary Dance (Ballet, Tap, and Jazz)

The focus in the primary level will be proper technique in the fundamental styles of Ballet, Tap and Jazz. This class will be an hour and a half long. Each week students will take 45 minutes of Ballet and 45 minutes of Jazz or Tap (alternating weekly). This will allow students to get the proper transition from a combination class to our upper level classes. We will guide students in these levels to focus on correct body placement and ensure they learn the structure of dance class in each style.

Primary Dance – Age 6 (1st grade)

Ballet

Join us as we explore the technique of classical ballet. Students will develop an understanding of how to properly execute and interpret ballet terminology. Each class will include barre exercises, center floor work, and across-the-floor combinations. The ballet curriculum will increase in difficulty and complexity as the student progresses. Ballet training is vital to students who wants to excel in other styles of dance.

Ballet 1 – Ages 7 – 8 (2nd & 3rd grade)

Ballet 2 – Ages 9 – 10 (4th & 5th grade)

Ballet 3 – Ages 11 – 13 (Middle School)

Ballet 4 – Ages 14 and up (High School)

Contemporary

This class uses lyrical movement to express a feeling or emotion. Students will explore partnering and weight sharing exercises combined with basic techniques and skills from ballet and jazz. This class places an emphasis on interpretation of music lyrics while telling a story with movement that can be fluid or abstract. As students’ progress through each level curriculum will increase in difficulty and complexity. Ballet is an important part of contemporary study therefore you must take a ballet class in order to take contemporary.

Contemporary 1 – Ages 7 – 8 (2nd & 3rd grade)

Contemporary 2 – Ages 9 – 10 (4th & 5th grade)

Contemporary 3 – Ages 11 – 13 (Middle School)

Contemporary 4 – Ages 14 and up (High School)

Hip Hop

Hip Hop is an energetic class focusing on popular dance styles of today. Classes will encourage students to step outside of the box by bringing their own individual style and personality to the movements. Hip hop dance requires students to have the strength and stamina to successfully perform moves.

Primary Hip Hop – Ages 6 (1st grade)

Hip Hop 1 – Ages 7 – 8 (2nd & 3rd grade)

Hip Hop 2 – Ages 9 – 10 (4th & 5th grade)

Hip Hop 3 – Ages 11 – 13 (Middle School)

Hip Hop 4 – Ages 14 and up (High School)

Jazz

Jazz class will focus on learning proper dance technique such as isolations of the body, improving performance quality and developing complex rhythms and patterns. Class curriculum is based on ballet technique layered with traditional jazz movement and includes a proper warm-up, stretches, isolations, across-the-floor progressions, and combinations. As students’ progress through each level curriculum will increase in difficulty and complexity.

Jazz 1 – Ages 7 – 8 (2nd & 3rd grade)

Jazz 2 – Ages 9 – 10 (4th & 5th grade)

Jazz 3 – Ages 11 – 13 (Middle School)

Jazz 4 – Ages 14 and up (High School)

Modern

Modern dance is rooted in the exploration of freedom in movement. Students will discover the principles of drop/suspend and contract release. The curriculum includes influences from Limon, Horton, Taylor, Cunningham and more. Students will gain of understanding of movement qualities along with mixed meter music. Students must be enrolled in ballet and have 3 years of ballet training.

Modern – Ages 11 and up (Must be a Level 3 or 4 stuent)

Pre-Pointe

Pre-pointe is designed to prepare dancers for success en pointe.

This class emphasizes strengthening technique and knowledge of pointe work. Students will incorporate ballet technique training during pre-pointe. This class can be taken on flat or while wearing pointe shoes and is designed to strengthen feet and ankles. During class students will participate in resistance band exercises, barre exercises, across the floor combination and center floor work. You must be recommended by an instructor to study pre-pointe.

Pre-pointe – Level 2 students

Pointe

En pointe is ballet dance that is performed on the toe.

Studying pointe requires dedication and commitment. Students will incorporate ballet technique training during pointe work. This class is designed to strengthen feet and ankles. During class students will participate in barre exercises, across the floor combination and center floor work. You must be recommended by an instructor to study pointe.

Pointe 1 – Level 3 students

Tap

Tap focuses on rhythm, coordination, and tap terminology. Classes are designed to develop rhythm, style and sound. Exercises focus on strengthening the knee and ankles, coordination, and speed of movement. The class emphasizes proper tap technique, producing clear tap sounds, and having fun. As students’ progress through each level curriculum will increase in difficulty and complexity.

Tap 1 – Ages 7 – 8 (2nd & 3rd grade)

Tap 3 – Ages 11 – 13 (Middle School)

Acro Dance

This class focuses on acrobatic elements that seamlessly incorporating dance and acrobatics together. Students will learn the basics along with working to advance their skills.  The focus will be placed on increasing flexibility, balance, strength, muscle control, discipline and concentration. This class will focus on fundamental acrobatic technique, teaching such a variety of acrobatic skills and how to include those skills within dance.

Primary Acro – Ages 6 (1st grade)

Acro 1 – Ages 7 – 8 (2nd & 3rd grade)

Acro 2 – Ages 9 – 10 (4th & 5th grade)

Acro 3 – Ages 11 – 13 (Middle School)

Teen Ballet

Students will develop an understanding of how to properly execute and interpret ballet terminology. Each class will include barre exercises, center floor work, and across-the-floor combinations. The ballet curriculum will increase in difficulty and complexity as the student progresses. Ballet training is vital to students who wants to excel in other styles of dance.

Teen Jazz

Teen Jazz class will focus on learning proper dance technique such as isolations of the body, improving performance quality and developing complex rhythms and patterns. Musical Theatre

This class is designed to create the triple threat. Instruction will focus on dancing, acting and singing. Students will learn basic dance movement, explore various acting techniques and practice group and solo singing. Students will explore the world of musical theatre in a safe and encouraging enviroment.

Musical Theatre 1 – Ages 6 – 8 (1st – 3rd grade)

Musical Theatre 2 – Ages 9 – 11 (4th- 6th grade)

Musical Theatre 3 – Ages 12 – 13 (7th and up)

Conditioning

This class is designed to help dancers increase their body strength, stamina and flexibility. Strength & Conditioning also teaches dancers about the mechanics of their body as it relates to dance technique. In the class students will focus on their specific needs as a way of injury prevention.
